The Abstractionist
June 28, 2006Like an abstractionist, you paint a painting that could only be fully comprehended by you.
Fact-Finding
June 27, 2006IT Research is one of the subjects I’m enrolled to for this semester.
Predictably, the subject requires us to do a research on a certain topic. A topic of our choice, gladly. For the past few days, me and others enrolled to the subject have been scribbling down probable subject matters. Revising a lot on titles, most of the times. Initial titles have been presented to our instructor already. Some were approved. Some, modified for improvement. And some, discarded. I was actually afraid of having my choice of topic discarded. ‘Cause I wasn’t sure if it was a good choice or if it was a practicable and practical choice. Luckily, it was approved.
Nanotechnology was the choice.
I always make it a point to like what I’m doing. From the minor things I do everyday, up to the major ones. School stuff, in particular. As we were told to look for a topic to research about, I thought of something I’m really interested in. That way, doing the whole research thing won’t necessarily be doing a requirement…it would be more on a personal exploration and adventure, instead.
Nanotechnology really amazes me. The whole miniaturization…creating-robots-as-small-as-atoms…technology-beyond-the-eye thing really drives me to find out more.
But nanotechnology is too wide an area. Since now, our teacher is making us move a notch higher by letting us select which particular area in our topic we’d like to focus on. Still gotta choose which particular nano field to pursue for reasearch. I’m thinking of medical aspects right now. The possibilities of aging reversal, destruction of cancer cells and other destructive cells…how they’re possible and their disadvantages to the individual and/or to the society, etc. etc.
I’m also thinking of moral issues regarding nanotechnology once it is implemented in society. Reverse aging, for one, is really a sensitive issue. How would this, and other sensitive nanotech matters jive with status quo? How would humanity adopt to changes presented by nanotech? Hmm…ano kaya?
Whew! I’ve got less than 24 hours to decide which particular area I’d be pursuing. Less than 24 hours to finalize my title for 2nd presentation, as well.
Ciao for now…
Gotta think. Hmm…
“Awa Lagi Ba!”
My day was cut short when the instructor for our 3 p.m. class didn’t show up. I was left with a forfeited hour of knowledge expansion. I could compensate, yes. But it won’t be the same.
Anyways, as me and my friends were exiting the school to head home, I felt this peculiar feeling of unwillingness to go home. I felt like there was something that I still needed to do before going home. I was a little hesistant to go out of the school, actually. But I heard a hint of roar from the heavens. And I looked up the sky seeing an indication of a downpour. So I decided to not let my instincts rule me.
So then. There I was, hailing a cab, opting for home. (Unsay cab! Tricycle gud to, uy…pa cab cab lang arong sosi kuno..hihihi!) I passed by the church to light a candle and I heard a singing of entrance hymn. And I was like…’what is a mass doing at this time of the day?’. I decided to attend the mass and was about to enter the church when I saw a bride and a groom situated in front of the presider. And I was like…”Ooopss…wrong mass. Balik, balik.” So then I just went with my original plan and lit a candle, instead.
After lighting a candle, I walked home. All relaxed and reflective on what I would do with the rest of the shortened day. Study for tomorrow’s quiz. Flip a few(or a lot of) pages in my borrowed Runaway Jury. Blog. Those were what my mind was rumbling. But my stomach was shouting only one thing…EAT.
So I ate. As I got home, I directly headed for the fridge to see what I could possibly munch to appease the grumbling one. I was all relaxed, yes, but still, the feeling of leaving something undone back in school bothered me. Even after I finished the meal, I still wasn’t relieved. Hmm…ngano kaha, I asked myself.
T.G.I.F.
June 23, 2006Thank God, it’s Friday! Yep, my schedule for this semester permits me to say that. Friday is, however, the only day of the week that I could breathe well. The rest is really ehm…exciting. My school life would start as early as 7:30 and end as late as 8:00 p.m..with a few uhh…short breaks in the middle. Exciting, ain’t it? Well, what can I say…tight schedules are one of the many challenges I gotta face in college.
Despite the tough schedule, it’s quite relieving that I’m packed with thrilling subjects this semester. Basically everything, including the minor subjects(The Humanities, most especially) really interests me. The major ones, which include Internet Technologies, System Programming(we’re employing C# as language), Operating System, and others are also very stimulating. Stimulating in the sense that you truly gotta pay close attention to the subject matters presented or else you fail and stimulating in the sense that it lets you get a taste of what’s truly in for you once you get out of college. I feel like these subjects are helping me get closer to deciding which path in I.T. I’d be taking.
Hmm…busy schedule, exciting subjects, what else…hmm…
I actually don’t know what else..lol! I’m just glad to finally get a break after a long week, that’s all. Tomorrow’s a Saturday. Not much homework but still got lots of research to do. Hmm…I won’t bother myself with that right now, however. I’m gonna take a little break first. (Just gotta have it!)
Ciao for now!
Crying Before the Hurt
June 15, 2006Sometimes, things around you make you feel like you’ve found something special. You feel like something wonderful is about to happen in your life. And then in just three words, everything shifts from sunshine to rain. From warmth to chill. From light to dark. From glee to gloom.
Everything could change in just a snap, they all say. And they all are right. One minute, you’re humming love songs, and in the next, noise bangs in your head so loudly, you feel like world is crumbling to pieces.
When I was little, I used to anticipate sadness. I used to supress too much happiness in delighting over things when I knew anguish would come next. And I did pretty well. I learned how to control the level of glee that shoots up to my nerves. I don’t know how I did it, but I did. Kinda funny when you think of it, huh?
New School Year
June 13, 2006It’s new year’s day for most students at the university I’m studying in. New school year’s day, that is. Just like the Jan.-1 kind of new year, we’re off to a fresh start this academic commencement. Lots of things are new. That goes for me(and many of my friends, as well). New subjects, new teachers, new responsibilities(huge ones!), new faces in school, new friends, and uh, new love(?)…hmm…I don’t know ’bout that last one. But then, who knows? Nothing’s impossible, right? Hehe…I won’t talk about that any longer as of now.
Anywayz…yeah, a lot, indeed has changed for us in just a year. As expected, the challenges grew bigger as years have been added to our age(ah..mura man sag unsa na jd ka tiguwang..hihihi!).
It’s gonna be a little tough. But then, God’s the always the toughest.
AY 2006-07, here I come! Good luck and God bless to everyone of us!
Stone’s WTC
June 8, 2006
Known in Hollywood for creating films based on true stories(JFK, Alexander, Born on the Fourth of July, Any Given Sunday), Oliver Stone directs another real-life flick entitled World Trade Center. Based discernibly on the 9/11 incident in downtown Manhattan, the film tells about two Port authority police officers Seargent John McLouglin(Nicolas Cage) and Officer Will Jimeno(Michael Pana), who were trapped inside the World Trade center when the building collapsed. The story revolves on these two officers’ dilemma inside the towers and their wives’ awaiting their fate.
This is the second released film in regard to the Sept. 11 terrorism attack. The first one is entitled United 93, which was suppsed to be(but apparently wasn’t) in theatres last April 25. The film’s being not shown in Philippine cinemas probably had something to do with the film’s being too upsetting. Maybe World Trade Center won’t be that disconcerting. I could only hope so.
It was said that the two officers, Seargent McLouglin and Officer Jimeno worked with the filmmakers in creating this movie. The reason…to ensure realism.

How NOT To Court A Girl
June 7, 2006A friend in friendster posted this. I pretty much enjoyed reading it. Just thought to share it with y’all!
Here goes…
What guy can honestly say that he’s not looking for somebody to love? I was talking to a male friend, who, at 23, happens to be single since birth, about finding and winning over that ideal person. He’s still looking, but we did get around to conversing about how guys should go about courting the girl once she comes along. Here are some of the advice I dished out.
1. First thing first. Never ask the girl if it is OK for you to court her. Just go ahead and do it. If she said yes, she might feel “pressured” to eventually agree to having relationship with you only because you’d already have invested time and money on her, when she had the choice in the beginning to reject you. If she said no, you’d be left thinking this is a mean person who did not even give you a chance. Allow her the space! to make up her mind along the way. (Another way of seeing it is that you are NOT allowing her the privilege to reject you outright).
2. Don’t be a puzzle. State your intentions. Guessing motives is stressful for the girl, more so if she is not in the habit of assuming intentions. The moment you decide to court her, express in explicit, unambiguous terms what you are doing. Wanting to get to know her better is always a good reason. Be honest. Girls are most often impressed by guys who open their hearts. This little show of vulnerability is a sign of emotional maturity. If you’re serious (should be!), this will not be a big deal.
3. Don’t be a fake. Of course you want to impress the girl, but don’t do it to the extent of re-packaging your character to fit her taste. Save yourself the hassle of constantly being on the watch for your behavior, words and actions. If your personality is too much too take within the first few days, you might want to introduce your idiosyncrasies little by little. Be human. This is already a declaration that you are not afraid to show your true self, and allows her to do the same.
4. Don’t bribe. Give gifts in moderation. Flowers on the first dinner, chocolate the following week are ok but everyday material reminder can be suffocating. The same deal for time. She had a life before you came along. Asking her to see you everyday may be too much too handle.
(the next one’s very important…)
